How to use the high IV list

  • Sort by IV Rank above 50 to find names where premium is rich versus their own history
  • Filter out upcoming earnings if you do not want to take event risk
  • Cross-check with Stock Score so you are not selling premium on a structurally broken name
  • Click through to the Options Screener to see the best structures already ranked for you

Common high IV setups

  • Short strangles 30 to 45 DTE around 0.15 delta each side
  • Iron condors when you want defined risk and a smaller buying-power impact
  • Cash-secured puts on quality names you would not mind owning at the strike
  • Calendar spreads when front-month IV is much richer than back-month

FAQ

Why do traders look for high IV stocks?

High implied volatility means options are expensive relative to expected price movement. Selling premium in high IV names, through credit spreads, iron condors, or short strangles, has a statistical edge because IV tends to mean-revert.

How is high IV different from high IV Rank?

Raw IV tells you the absolute level of implied volatility, useful for sizing premium. IV Rank tells you where IV sits inside the last 52 weeks. A stock can have low absolute IV but a high IV Rank if its own range is tight. Stryke shows both.

What causes IV to spike?

Earnings, FDA decisions, macro events, lawsuits, M&A rumors, and broad market stress. Stryke flags upcoming earnings so you can tell whether the high IV is event-driven or structural.

How often does the list refresh?

IV and IV Rank update live through regular trading hours as options chains move. The 52-week reference window rolls forward each trading day.
